Individuals who wish to attend training to facilitate Connect Caregiver Attachment groups must meet the following requirements: 

• Experience working with children, youth, and families (e.g., mental health professional, childcare worker, health care provider, social worker, teacher, etc.);

• Readiness to facilitate a manualized, strength-based, experientially focused program that actively engages caregivers in the therapeutic process and avoids adopting a didactic/directive approach;

• Training and familiarity with trauma-informed approaches to clinical care;

• Lived experience or acquired knowledge and skill sets in culturally sensitive and safe clinical care;

• Readiness to facilitate group-based interventions;

• Readiness to deliver brief role-plays to promote caregiver reflection and engagement;

• Readiness to actively engage in weekly, session-by-session reflective supervision;

• Readiness to engage in program evaluation and participant feedback conversations;

Prior to training: Participants are asked to read the Connect© Manual and associated training materials prior to the Connect© Program Training Workshop. 

Following training: Facilitators must commit to running the first group under supervision within 6 months of completing the training workshop. These may include:

• Coordinating caregiver enrolment.

• Delivery of a Connect group.

• Completion of supervision, including pre-treatment consultation on recruitment and group composition and weekly supervision sessions.

• Additional time may be needed for administrative and organizational tasks.

Once you complete the full Connect facilitator training workshop (Online: 6 half days; In-person: 3 days), please reach out to connectattachmentprogram@gov.bc.ca so that we can arrange a certified Connect supervisor to supervise you during your first Connect group.

Supervision includes pre-group consultation, review of all session recordings, and weekly supervision sessions over the course of one group.

If you wish to run eConnect groups (i.e., Connect groups online), you will need a support person to manage the online platform while you facilitate the group so you can focus on parents. This support person can be staff from your agency (e.g., practicum students, admin staff, clinical staff who wish to learn know more about Connect etc.). They do NOT need to have prior Connect training or significant technological skills.

Both group facilitators and the tech support person need to attend a 3-hour eConnect tech training workshop before the start of their first group, ideally before the recruitment of parents. You can reach out to connectattachmentprogram@gov.bc.ca to arrange the training.
